Title: Do you know what make ?
Post by: Guy 13 on November 30, 2019, 12:47:48 AM
Hi all.
Just by curiosity, do you know what make are those speakers.
I would guess Pioneer or Sansui ? ? ? ?

There's a lot of not great vintage speakers. AudioKarma forum is the best place that knows all the models.

My first or second exposure to better equipment than the norm was my neighbor down the street. I would bet at least one of the rectangular boxes you are showing is Pioneer. That's what he had, and those look identical if memory serves me correctly. I was about 14 at the time, and they were a lot of fun to listen to. That would be 1974 or 1975.
Thanks for the memories Guy.

A little more sleuthing tells me that the ones one the right, sitting on top of the ones without grilles are in fact Sansui. The logo on the grille is this I believe:

Guy, I'll take a Banh Mi made with pork for my effort.

James, no problem for one bánh mì kẹp thịt heo,
do you want it via UPS or FedEx Priority collect ? ? ?  :thumb:
I have a pair of speakers similar to the one shown in the picture.
They are Pioneer and use to belong to my sister in law.
Most of the drivers (8'' woofer and 3.5'' tweeter) are dead because
by wife use them for Karaoke singning with a 300 watts (50% distortion)
amplifier...
My Vietnamese cabinet maker will recondition them,
because many wood parts were roothen and
when back in Montreal, I will buy the drivers and installed them myself.
I will keep them as souvenir of my (Pass away) sister in law
and use them for ambiant music.
I love the front grill, they don't make them like that anymore, too bad...  :(

i bought a pair of these off the local c/l for $20.  (sansui sp2500). the sound was pretty meh.  then, i dialed them in w/my deqx; the change was startling.  everything - soundstaging, detail, tone - it all improved drastically.  they came very close to my best speakers.  quite the eye-opener:

they actually had decent specs - 50hz-20khz anechoic; down to 30hz in-room.  96db-efficient.

Interesting what you were able to do with the Sansuis using deqx.  I just saw a couple of videos on Dirac. I’m interested, but only if I can get it to work with Roon

honestly, i don't know anything about roon.  but w/the deqx, or something similar, it typically goes between amp(s) and preamp, so i'm thinking it should work w/roon.  even if roon goes between preamp and amp(s), (but i'd think it's just another source?), then a signal processor like deqx would go after the roon and before the amp(s).

I believe Dirac capability wouldn’t require another box. It’s inherent in the Dirac-capable hardware. It’s just something I’ll look into down the road to fine tune things.
