Billy Joel & Richard Joo: Fantasies and Delusions -  Music for Solo Piano

Columbia CD

Wow, the Piano Man really has some Classical chops. I was impressed.
What a find!  Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention... It's like Billy Joel has been touched by the ghost of Chopin and transported to Paris in 1920 to drink Absinthe with Eric Satie and Claude Debussey.
This is one I'll have to find a copy of and add to my collection.
...Amazon has my money and I'll have the cd tomorrow.

When I put it on my wife thought ti was Chopin as well.

I heard and interview with Billy Joel on the radio not so long ago where he was talking about the process writing and arranging songs in very detailed technical musical terms. I was absolutely shocked with the depth of his technical knowledge about music.  He grew up not to far from me and I know several people who went to high school with him so all said he was a borderline drop out playing in whatever rock band he had put together at the time and not caring much about school at all. So I had always had this impression of him as a rock and roller who just banged out rock songs through his innate talent alone. But in listening to this the way he talked in that interview he sounded more like a Julliard graduate than a rocker. I don't know if he is self taught or got himself some formal music training along the way, but he really knows his stuff.

I'm glad you enjoy the album, because as I have said before sharing our discoveries is what this thread is all about. My eyes, or should I say ears, have been opened to many things that I would not have given a second though to if not for posts here and I am very happy to pay that forward.  :thumb:

‘Realization’, an album by Johnny Rivers made in 1968. I really like the vibe here. He is so much more than the ‘Secret Agent Man’ song he is known for. Atmospheric, and as always, maybe not your cuppa, but a few great covers here as well- Hey Joe, Whiter Shade of Pale, and Positively 4th Street. ‘Summer Rain’ I believe was the ‘hit’ from the album.
I’ve given up on posting pictures here, so my verbiage will have to suffice... Along with an AllMusic review.

Kind of Blue.  The quintessential jazz classic.
A friend brought over his Japanese pressing to compare to my original late 50's 6 eye Columbia... no comparison at all.  The Japanese pressing was far superior, and not just newer quieter vinyl.  The drums were more lively, the instruments better placed, better defined.  I've got to ask him where he got it when he comes by tomorrow.

Then, just for grins,  Chick Corea "My Spanish Heart"
Reading the credits I noticed for the first time is a Bob Ludwig.

Pls post his answer. I’d be curious to know, even though I’m out of vinyl

Probably a guy named Takashi at jazzbluesjapan on ebay or his website https://jazzbluesjapan.jp/.  We've bought a bunch from him this year, and try to combine our purchases to reduce the shipping $$.

Jazz Sabbath: Iron Man, Live in London 1968

Tidal Streaming

Found this as a single released last Friday on Tidal. When Tidal releases something as a single it is often a preview track from an album that is ready for release in the near future.

In this case I sure hope so.  8)
