Trombone Shorty is on tour in the Northeast. Just picked up tickets for March 21's at the new Westbury theater on Long Island. Going with Pete, Campy, Mike and my wife.

Who else wants to join us?

Here's a link to the venue:

I saw him at the Prospect Park Bandshell this summer. He was great!

Saw him several times on the HBO show "Treme". Lots of great New Orleans music on that show, but it's over now. Going to miss it, but certainly looking forward to this live concert.

Sounds like fun but if I were in the area, this is a show I'd definitely want see...

PALERMO PLAYS ZAPPA w/MIKE KENEALLY AND NAPOLEON MURPHY BROCK!

Folks, we're doing it again!

IRIDIUM-JANUARY 17+18 (FRIDAY AND SATURDAY)

The last time was OFF THE CHARTS INSANE.

I have a mind-blowing show all set for everybody.

IRIDIUM

http://theiridium.com/
1650 Broadway (51st)
New York, NY 10019
for reservations-212-582-2121

Also, Amazon is taking pre-orders for our new Zappa CD (dbl disc!)

or

Go to Cuneiform

http://www.cuneiformrecords.com/

Ed Palermo and his large jazz band has been at it for over 20 years and they are tight and right! I've only seen them once when they came to Baltimore for a CD release party but they play pretty regularly in the NYC area - especially at 2 clubs (including the Iridium). Ed plays tribute to Zappa in his music but isn't a cover band by any means. His interpretations of Frank's music are quite compelling and always entertaining.

...Forgot to mention that Mike Keneally is an outstanding guitarist in his own right and worth the price of admission alone ($30). He actually played in Zappa's band for years (replacing Adrian Belew, I believe) and Mr. Brock played in the band for such albums as 'Bongo Fury' and 'One Size Fits All'. I'm thinking of taking the bus up for this show!

I met Mike and Bryan at a backyard concert 2 summers ago when they were running around the country together. 2 great guys and holy cow can they play.

A prog music loving friend of mine is a huge Keneally fan, so his wife bought him this private show for his 40th birthday. Awesome present, for sure.

I love this dudes music. So much so, that I have a Pandora channel based on him. Great stuff.
That photo is fantastic too by the way.

His first 2 albums were pretty cool ... New Orleans horns mixed with gritty guitar  in a raucous sounding energetic mix. Sure, there were a few sung ballad =style songs in there, but they broke the albums up nicely.

However his new album is mostly sung ballads, some way over on the pop side of things. There's maybe 4-5 songs on the whole thing that I like and many I can't stomache at all.

I just hope he plays to his loyal fan base at the show (meaning the old stuff that got him popular in the first place).

Well, that sounds absolutely horrible.  :?
I've not heard many of his ballads, just the jamming jazz tracks. However, that's probably a result of how I've got my Pandora station set up.

Simply Awesome Concert tonight... the venue (The Place in Westbury, NY) was an old converted Vaudeville theatre... The renovation yielded horrible acoustics... The balcony seats were boomy as all hell... However, the floor (dance floor) next to the stage was decent sounding...

Trombone Shorty put on a phenomenal show... Everyone was dancing, even Triode Pete!

Highly recommended to see this New Orleans Jazz-Funk-Rocking musician with superb accompanying musicians... This is why we listen to music & have Nervosa Systems!  :thumb:

Cheers,
Pete
