Have Vinyl reissues upped their game?
« on: April 29, 2022, 01:52:37 PM »
It wasn't all that long ago that many of the vinyl reissues were a complete crap shoot as to pressing quality.
Lately, it seems that the ones I've bought over the past couple of years are all quite good.  A Kenny Dorham release from Record Store day last year is very good... and from a label I've never heard of, Craft Recordings.  I just bought a release of James Taylor's "Hourglass" from a company called Analog Spark.  Should be here Mon.
Not that long ago, I took a reissue of a Patricia Barber back as the noise level was unacceptable.   I have hopes that things have changed for the better.
The bad news is the price.  It's only something I think is special that I'll divvy up $40+ for a vinyl of something I have on cd or an older pressing.

I was wondering if you ever looked up the issuing companies online or just gave them a call. Some of the companies that I reach out to are very pleasant and forthcoming as well.

Craft Recordings is not a new label; pre se, it is a division of Concord records that specializes in re-releasing music from the Concord library.

Apparently Analog Spark has been around for a few years as well, just never ran across them before.  I remember a thread over at AC years back where some of the big vinyl voices were dissatisfied with the hit and miss quality of reissues.  Outside of Analogue Productions, MFSL, and Classic Records I've just not heard enough to form an opinion.
