For anyone using Thunderbird
« on: June 14, 2011, 09:13:10 AM »
I foolishly updated Thunderbird yesterday to the offered 5.01b build. I have never had any issues with new builds from Mozilla but this time I got a Lulu...namely that imbedded links in mails will not open the browser (any browser). I assume this is a bug and will be sorted in time but if anyone else has encountered this I would appreciate confirmation. Actually this sucks bigtime. And what's worse is that I can't roll back to a previous version. Thanks
I tried installing another version and the problem is the same. Very odd.

My Thunderbird client says version 3.1.10.  Then under that it says:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2.17) Gecko/20110414 Lightning/1.0b2 Thunderbird/3.1.10

Since you say ver 5.01 maybe you have upgraded your browser, not your email client (or both?) Firefox has a version 5 beta now, and it has some compatibility issues with previous plugins stable under ver 4.

Try setting default browser to something other than Firefox to see if email links work again.  I use Chrome and my links work fine from emails in Thunderbird 3.1.10.

Both firefox and Thunderbird are the latest versions and I suspect you're right. I'll try Chrome and see what happens.
Nada. I found that there are no plugins in the data base whatsoever so obviously it can't do anything other than recieve and send mail. This is totally weird. Obviously I shouldn' have updated to this beta build  :duh

Did you get this fixed shep?

My Thunderbird is asking for an upgrade to ver 5.0 (release version) Should I do it?
Thanks

Shep,

If you decide to roll back to an earlier version, this may be helpful.

Here's a repository of older versions of Thunderbird.
