Hi all.
Just saw this on Facebook and taught it would be a good
start for an exchange of comments, ideas, discussion, etc...
I like the vintage look from SONY or new items that look vintage
with nice wood accent.
Clean lines, well arranged buttons and switches.
Now, do we need all those components or all those seperate components ? ? ? ?
Let start, 1, 2, 3 Go...

No we do not. Amp, preamp, tuner and preamp stay. Having the ability to use separate dedicated lines for analog and digital is an advantage. Power supplies for each a plus as well.

OK, bottom to top it looks like a power amp, a preamp, a CD Player and a cassette deck. I assume one of the top two components is a tuner. any idea what the other one is?

I remember back in the 80's 'civilians' thought rack systems were the top end thing in audio. We audiophile snob grunts knew better of course... 8)

They also thought Sony made the best electronics on the planet.......

Yeah, I remember my buddies and I would use the phrase “nice rack”

Didn't get a change to have a full size "rack" system back in the 80s, but I loved my Sony "midi" or mini stereo. A step up from a boombox, but not quite a full system:
This is the exact model we had in the house:

The CD player was separate and not included in the basic system. It had a graphic equalizer display, dolby noise reduction, and a "Super Acoustic Turbo" (love the name) switch that was a bass boost. What was impressive was the motorized volume control via remote and the linear skating tape deck.
Rated at a spectacular "340 watts P.M.P.O. (peak music power output) whatever that meant.
It was loud enough to annoy the neighbors.
I must be doing something very wrong as I am using Sony again these days!

Have a Sony ES STR DA 5300 receiver bought used for wiring an outdoor patio surround system under the deck when I used to haul back and forth a flat panel to watch movies at night outdoors. Thing works great and was bulletproof -- now sitting on a shelf awaiting a buyer. I think they were one of the first to have the hook-ups that would operate other components with the same remote??? Also -- yeah nice rack :yay2:
