I like this one quite a bit too...

Why would I listen to two Tchaikovsky 4th performances back to back?  I dunno, other than to say that this piece is like a sonic drug to me.  Tchaikovsky's 4th and 5th are probably my two favorite symphonic works.  Can't get enough of either.

I was fortunate to hear the 4th live a few years ago. It is an awesome symphony. I haven't heard it in a while, gotta pull it up tonight...  :thumb:

+1 Rich

Got this multi-disk set at the crackhouse for $1, haven't listened to it, or even cleaned it. Think
I'll mute the UCONN game - Go Huskies! - wash and play the 4th.

Tchaikovsky Symphonies No. 4, 5 & 6 / Mravinsky / Leningrad

I have that same set.  The performances are superb and sound quality is pretty good.  Just set the proper expectations since it is a later DG pressing and as such the quality of the vinyl isn't all that great.  But it's hard to complain for $1.  I bought mine for $10 and felt it was a fair deal.

I have this Tchaikovsky Symphony set on Columbia (Sony) by Abbado / Chicago. It is excellent, but the 4th is not as passionate as the Bernstein version. Cleaner playing and better recordings though.

Looks like out of print now...  :-k    I remember when I first got this set one disk was scratched and wouldn't rip. Arkiv happily exchanged it.  :thumb:

Oh, that was superb!  :)
I was a little freaked, after cleaning I saw a 4" scratch running tangential to the label, but it was mostly inaudible.

You are not the only one who does this. I have Ansermet SRO and Reiner CSO recordings of both Pictures at an Exhibition and Scheherazade. It is not unusual for me to play the two performances back to back. Each conductor puts his own spin and flavor on the piece. To me it's one of the more interesting aspects of classical music, how the different interpretations can change the feel of the piece.
