Scored one used for cheap. Uses EL84 and 6N3P tubes. Enjoying headphones again.
Now on the hunt for headphones. Do I spend for Audeze or HIFIMan or just get some nice Denon Pro headphones.
What do you guys use ?

AKG K701

I rotate headphones.
For open back headphones I, like the professor, enjoy AKG 701s.
I also enjoy the BeyerDynamic DT 770 600 Ohm headphones and a pair of Alpha Dog Prime headphones too.
I like the AKG 701 headphones with a solid state amp. The other 2 closed back headphones I love with tube amplification.

The contenders are Hi Fi Man HE600, Oppo, Audeze, Dennon and now AKG.
The reason for Pro Dennon was the review I read on the Yarland that said they are a super dupper match.

I absolutely love my Alpha Design Labs 118s. But they are closed back, so you have to be ok with that, some people aren't. The blow away my Grado 225s for less money. Shane has some on his last list of things he was clearing out. They are a huge sound per dollar deal.

Sennheiser HD598's and AKG K553 pro's.
The 598's are more refined, the K553's rock better. It's nice to have a choice depending on mood and music.

I will second the ADL's. I have the 218's which are a little more refined than the 118. It was enough of a difference for me to pay for it. I might buy a 2nd pair of 118's to replace my office-duty Momentums.
I like the Momentums but the on ears gets on my nerves sometimes.
The 118 and 218 require smallish ears to fit properly in my opinion. I also have ADL's x1 amp/DAC that I like too.
Audeze are comfortable on larger ears but I get tired of the heft on the top of my head. I haven't heard their latest closed back (model 800?). I hear they are lighter than their others.
Anyway... That's what I know. Ha.

Thanks Carl

I said "218's" but I meant 128's.

OK did the headphone thing. After awhile not a fan for long term listening. For evaluation of cables and components though a blessing.
