neither a new topic nor terribly interesting

 So why bother? Gotta contribute is all  :thumb:
My old Marantz has just been upgraded. Here's some of what he says he's done this time:
" Hi Shep

I have undertaken some mods, the cost came to more than £150 but I have honoured the £150 by minimising the labour charge.
I have fitted Rubycon ZA capacitors to the opamps and the dac analogue, Oscon SEPC caps to the dac digital + a C1 clock.

Although the parts are running in the sound is less bright, more detailed and natural. Ideally in the future the main Pana FC smoothing caps should be replaced by some good caps such as the Mundorf HC (or my new caps that arrive around Christmas ;-)  They are the same capacitor as the Mundorf but with my own lable).

Regards
Brent " We have agreed that every year he'll do a next step until...well until it dies or we do or something serious happens in 2012!

Heavens no!!! my 20 year old Marantze 67 mkll SE. This is stage three or thereabouts of an on-going attempt to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. They said it can't be done...wanna bet?

Is this the same CDP you were swapping opamps back when?

20 years old! Have you had it for that long or bought it used? How much money you figured you have put in it over the years? Very curious.

Bought it cheap when the series ended. I actually bought two of them, since they were practically given away and were reputed for good modding. Had to change a laser once, otherwise going non stop. ps changing the laser is a royal pain. Fortunately there are still stocks of Phillips lasers around.

After 20 years of technology marching on, I'm curious as to:

- All the mods done to date
- How much money have you invested to date
- What currently built CDP you'd compare it to soundwise

a. I don't know! if you look on this site:
http://www.audioupgrades.co.uk/cdupgrades.shtml, under Marantz mods you'll see. Go to level 2
b. around 500$
c. never compared to recent machines! they don't exist where I live.
This started as just a fun interesting thing to do. Now it's a kind of obsession. How far can you go with "old" technology.

Our friend Sol has one and has modded it. Sounds very nice.
