As this next selection starts, this should be one of the finest sounding recordings of a clarinet,
next to live. Martha Argerich playing piano. And this is on YouTube. The sound is so open with
wonderful decays etc.

Your welcome Nick.

I just found a recording that will test the dynamics of one's system. I found it on Deezer,
but also YouTube but of lesser quality. Be careful of the volume as it could easily clip one's system.
The transparency and naturalness are very natural.

Glad you found it Nick.

Interestingly, high DA (electrolytic capacitors) means electrons stick to the insulation and
slowly release. One of the degrading effects is loss of dynamics. With low DA polypropylene
(capacitors), the dynamics are increased.

The first time I heard that selection at normal volume, when the dynamics suddenly hit, I
thought the cones were going to separate from the speaker basket. Quite startling. Poly caps
in the power supply helps with the dynamics, as well as naturalness of the sound.

Here is a recording of Horowitz. Although not as natural of recording, the dynamics are pretty amazing.
The power in those fingers amazes me.

I don't know how to explain this selection. It just seems so good, acoustics I have been in before,
and I love the song since a kid. Music starts at ~1:10.

Steve,

I love this song as well. A beautiful melody and lyrics as well. Roon has a nice history on the song and I’ve enjoyed many of co-composer Franck Pourcell’s compositions over the years. There are many “jazzed up” versions of this song and they annoy me quite a bit. They basically…imho….ruin a beautiful song. But I suspect the “jazzed up” version is because the song was used in the movie Sister Act. Just speculation and I’m not going to check into it further. I was able to find a few good versions on Roon and really enjoy those. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Nick.

Those other good versions, are they on YT, and if so, would you post such if you have time? I would love to hear them.
If not, no sweat.

Mom fell twice last week, and sis is coming, so not much time on my end to check.

Steve,

None of the Roon versions appear to be on utube. But I did find this one and I think it’s beautifully done. Franck Pourcell and Paul Mauriat were wonderful composers.

I’m so sorry to hear your mom is not doing well.

Thank you Nick. Much appreciated.

Mom is being looked after closer at the home. Seems she falls right after
lunch in her wheelchair. Usually she takes an early afternoon nap for 3 hours, but when she does not,
that is when she is most vurnerable.

I appreciate you posting the link, sounds nice.

cheers
