A desire a while ago to clear up shelf space through eliminating old cd-r's led me to start digitizing what was on those discs, and that in turn led me to (re)share many of these shows here on DIME. That process of shelf clearing began with Collin Walcott era Oregon shows, and has now chronologically brought me with Oregon shows to the mid 90's, and a time between Trilok Gurtu and Mark Walker. That's when Oregon recorded and toured as a percussion-less Trio. As someone who still purchases commercially released cd's, I was very happy recently to come across a pretty rare album the band recorded in this format, which was a music for a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare. I found that on discogs, and listening to it got me interested again in this time period of the band.
This particular performance was first shared here, as was so much Oregon related material, by Rudolff. petercherman had shared it a couple of time since then, and I either got my copy through Rudolff's original share, or through the first petercherman reseed. Therefore, many thanks to each of them. In prepping this again, I noticed a few minor things that I addressed through Audacity. First of all, this had been presented as something to be burned to discs with a separation point after Yet to Be. For some reason the tracks from "disc one" were a little hotter, and had a little clipping in spots. A few of them also had balance issues between the left and right channels. Rudolff's info file had also referenced the pre-FM allowing one to hear "the keys being pressed on Paul McCandless's woodwinds". That was true in spots to the point where some of the highest register playing was particularly shrill to my ears. Glen Moore's bass was also often more implied than actually heard at other times. All of that led me to use the live editing features for EQ in Audacity to slightly boost the lows, while also slightly reducing the highs. I also reduced the overall volume to a very small extent, and normalized the tracks. Samples will show this work, which was not at all heavy-handed.
There had also originally been 21 tracks, and that was due to the presence of 6 separately tracked announcements-3 of which were each less than about 10 seconds. 2 of those were Paul McCandless intros of the next track to be played. and one prior to Icarus was a German announcer. I elected to eliminate each of these short annaouncements as a separate track, and to join them where the applause diminished in the previous track to where they'd once appeared. Finally, info seen in the dimebot archive from the most recent reseed by petercherman mentioned a date correction from December 11 to December 12. I looked elsewhere, and all other refernces I found still had this as a performance from December 11th. That included Paul McCandless's own website gig listing which had him in Hamburg on the 11th, and then playing in the USA on the 13th with someone other than Oregon. Therefore, I'm sharing this again as a show from December 11.
Thanks again to those with a hand in recording this and sharing it with the rest of us. Source info from the dimebot archive has been copied and pasted below:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday's post of a trio Oregon concert reminded me of this wonderful torrent I downloaded from Dime a few years back. I reseed it in 2012, but it has long since gone off the tracker. The music is terrific, and the sound pristine.

My thanks to the original seeder, whose information file I have pasted below.

One small change: I re-named the torrent file to accord with Dime's rules.

comments:
this was the early stages of the tour of their album "the caution horses", including 7 songs from the not-yet released (studio) album. Their previous release is a live album (from Toronto, Ontario's Church of the Holy Trinity in Nov. 27, 1987 concert), recorded with one microphone and the band surrounding it. This concert includes 6 songs heard in that recording (released in 1988). Only 2 songs here are heard in the band's 1986 debut album"whites off earth now" (shining moon and me and the devil)which is an all but 1 song covers album. maybe the Junkies' biggest hit around here (until "a common
disaster" in 94) is heard here (Sweet Jane). apparently there are at least 3 sources available for this concert,
and they all sound like they could be good ones (according to etree, it's even available for free DL there)and the dime search engine put me through a search of nearly400 torrents to tell me they have 4 Cowboy Junkies torrents on their tracker, and none of them is this concert, which I believe has been posted from a shopkin source FM recording, and more recently from another uploader.  this recording has not been posted before. it is my own FM master reel recorded from WBCN as it happened (not pre-recorded).the band starts playing before they're introduced, and it cuts in slightly but the entire stage introduction is included.once the recording starts it doesn't end until the announcer says good night. No tape flip or interruption. all the encore announcer gabble is in there (there's not alot).do not sell this recording.Share freely, losslessly and gaplessly.
