I had a doctor's appointment yesterday afternoon and by the time I got out it was the middle of rush hour. So rather than waste time sitting in traffic I figured it would be a much better use of time to make a stop at the record store down the road from the doctor's office.  8-[

Unfortunately they stocked mostly CDs , but they were running a big clearance sale with a big selection of CDs reduced to just 49 cents. While I did not score any rare finds what I did do was pick up a bunch of CDs on from artists or albums I was not really familiar with but were labels that I knew had reputations for good sound and performances (and many of them had band members that I did know and like.)

Most of this stuff I would have passed up at full price, but for half a buck I can afford to take a chance on some lesser known performers.

Jim Brock: Tropic Affair - Reference Recordings CD
Stereophile Editors Choice Sampler & Test CD
Oscar Peterson/Ray Brown/Benny Carter/Clark Terry: The More I See You - Telarc Jazz CD (This was not one of the acts I had not heard of! )
Janis Siegel: Sketches of Broadway - Telarc CD
Janis Siegel: I Wish You Love - Telarc CD
Tony DeSare: Last First Kiss - Telarc CD
Tony DeSare: Want You - Telarc CD
Rosemary Clooney Sings the Songs of Harold Allen - Concord CD
Scott Hamilton Plays Ballads - Concord CD
Lew Tabackin: Tenority - Concord CD
Alex De Grassi: The World's Getting Loud - Windham Hill CD
Sinatra: Love Songs - Sony CD
Tony Bennett with Count Basie: Some Pair - Pair Records CD
Tony Bennett: Here's to the Ladies - Columbia CD
Jane Oliver: In Concert - Columbia CD

So when is a trip to PREX not a trip to PREX?

About two years ago when I was getting ready to move I needed to attend a business meeting in New Jersey that ended up being not to far from Princeton Record Exchange. Of you since I was almost in the neighborhood I felt morally obligated to make a stop on my way home and left with my usual multiple bags of vinyl goodies. Well somehow when I got home in all the hustle and bustle of packing up the house one of those bags got packed into a box before I had a chance to listen to any of the albums within. Fast forward to this morning and I was in the basement rearranging tidying up a bit and I stumbled upon the same bag. So today I got a dozen PREX albums to listen to and I never even left by house.  :thumb:

I had to go pick up my wife's daughter from school in Philadelphia today. She will be crossing the pond to do the Spring Semester at Cambridge so not only did we have to get her, but we had to empty her dorm room and take everything home with us. Since all of us now have small cars it took two of us to carry all her stuff. She rode home with her father and I stuffed my car and started to travel back solo. Well by the time we hit the road it was raining pretty hard and getting close to rush hour and the traffic was backing up fast. So faced with an extra long ride home in bumper to bumper traffic I came up with a plan....... Take some side roads and travel from Philadelphia to long Island via Princeton. What better thing for a tired road warrior to do than wait out the traffic by taking a break from driving at PREX?  :rock  (Yeah, like I really need an excuse.  )

Vinyl picking are starting to get thin, even at Princeton Record Exchange, As Blu-ray discs are starting to squeeze out a lot of floor space that used to house LPs. But I guess if it helps pay the rent and keep the record shop open (even if they do keep less stock than they used to)  I can't complain all too much.

Even though I only found 1 LP (I probably would have found more if I had crawled around on the floor looking in the dollar bins, but that area was pretty crowded and I did not have all that much time. I had to be on the road in two hours and a full out assault on the entire PREX inventory can take 6 - 8, and yes I have done that many times.   :thumb:
Anyway, here is a list of what I came away with:

Gould: West Point Symphony - Fennel/Eastman Wind Ensemble, Mercury Golden Imports LP

John Pizzarelli with The George Shearing Quintet: The Rare Delight of You, Telarc CD
Andrew Lloyd Webber: Erich Kunzel/ Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Telarc CD
Mighty Sam McClain: Blues for the Soul, Telarc CD
Mahler: Symphony No. 4: Reiner/Chicago Symphony, RCA Living Stereo CD
Leonard Bernstein, Total Embrace: The Composer, Sony Legacy 3 CD  Set
The Turtle Creek Chorale: Postcards, Reference Recordings HDCD
Bernstein: Candide Suite Etc: Oue/Minnesota Orchestra, Reference Recordings HDCD
Clark Terry: Express, Lark/Depaul University Big Band, Reference Recordings HDCD
Ella Fitzgerald: Sunshine of Your Love, Verve CD
Ella Fitzgerald: The Very Best of the Duke Ellington Songbook, Verve CD
Ella Fitzgerald: Music & Music, Songbook Selections 1956-1959, Hear Music CD
Peter Cincotti: East of Angel Town,  Concord CD
Ray Brown Trio: Live from New York to Tokyo, Concord CD
A Sheffield Christmas Collection, Sheffield Labs CD
Nancy Bryan: Neon Angel, Analogue Productions Originals CD
California Guitar Trio: Pathways, Discipline Global Mobile CD
Charlotte Church: Enchantment, Columbia CD

And guess what, by the time I finished shopping the traffic had dissipated enough that I did not hit one slowdown all the way home.  8)

After a long drought I was finally able so score some decent condition vinyl at the Crack House yesterday!!!!

The Boston Pops: Fiedler in Rags
Hugh Masekela: Waiting for the Rain
The Weavers: Reunion at Carnegie Hall, Part Two
Great Songs of Christmas By the Great Artists of Our Time - I jumped all over this because for as long as I can remember it was in my father's record rack. When My mother sold the house it was one of the records that got tossed because it was so beat up. I never actually remember hearing it, but I can picture it sitting there in the rack as clear as day. I guess it was just a small part of my childhood. This is a mint like new copy, so I will actually get to listen to it.  :nodding

And of course, I found a few CDs as well

Stanley Jordan: Cornucopia
Eddie Money: Greatest Hits
Michael Bolton: Timeless, The Classics
The Eagles: Hell Freezes Over  I have no idea what happened to my copy of this CD, one of my kids probably has it and I am sure it will show up, , but at 99 cents for a mint copy I figured what the heck, it's not even worth looking for anymore.
