A lot it is stuff that I may not have otherwise given a second thought, but at 5 for a buck, what the heck!  :thumb:

I love 5 for a buck!

Columbia, SC has an annual record show and the University radio station brings a dozen bins of music, promos, culls etc.  Usually the price is either 5 for a buck or fill a bag for $X.  I'll buy 50-100 albums for pennies, most of which I've never heard of, then I get to go home and play.  Usually about 50% is terrible, 30% is good for someone else and about 20% I enjoy.  Inevitably, there are one or two records that make my permanent regular rotation.  It's so much fun finding those gems.

Hmmmnnn... I seem to recall a conversation with you just yesterday afternoon about being selective.  Selective, not due to price (obviously) but to economize on storage space!

Your short term memory must be going, Tom!

A few Miles Davis LPs on minty vintage vinyl.  The one LP on a vintage Columbia 6-Eye pressing I still don't own is Milestones.  I'll have to see what I can do about that.

It wasn't intentional.  I have been dealing with a serious bout of diverticulitis and haven't been sleeping well with my stomach tied up in knots.  :(

My doctor has me on two antibiotics and I'm hoping to be feeling better in two or three days.  Once this passes you can pretty much rest assured that you won't see me on the vinyl vampire's turf anytime soon.  8)

Well I finally got lucky at the Unique section of the Tri-County Bazaar on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown.

I was able to score the following for under $5 due to a promotion they had in the store yesterday.

Duran Duran Rio
Phil Collins No Jacket Required
Thompson Twins Into The Gap
Time Life Music Giants Of Jazz James P. Johnson 3LP set un-opened
Brazilian Guitar Classics

There were lots of other classical music there where the vinyl is in good condition but the jackets were beat up. I have enough classical music that I can't buy anymore until I start selling/donating the vinyl I don't want. I'm running out of space.

The Unique Thrift store on Old Country Road used to be good but the vinyl section has been picked pretty clean as of late.

SG, I agree, pickin's at the Crack House have been pretty slim as of late, especially the vinyl rack. I have a felling that this may have something to do with Hurricane Sandy where either peoples collections got destryeed int the storm or people figured they had better get the stuff out of the basement before it does get destryed by a future storm. Tere seemed to be a rush of things turned into both the cracjk house and the local used record storms not too log after both Sandy and Irene the year before. But since we are dealing with a case of finite supply (there are just so many vintage LPs out there) it is usually the case that a surge ofturn ins is followed by a periosd of drought as, for example, people who would have sold or donated LPs in the fall got rid of those albums during  the panic sell off in the ealy part of the year. But over timethe supply levels out again and things go back closer to normal.

Seen it before and I am sure I will see it again. Just part of the ups and downs of record collecting.

That said, after a pretty long dry spell, I was able to come up with the following CDs over the weekend:

Stanley Jordan: Stolen Moments - Blue Note
Richard Elliot: After Dark - Blue Note
David Benoiy/Russ Freeman: The Benoit/Freeman Project - GRP
Nelson Rangell:Truest Heart - GRP
Najee: Tokyo Blues - EMI
Paul Hardcastle?Jazzmasters: The Greatest Hits - Hardcastle Records
Braveheart: Original motion Picture Soundtrack - London

Good theory Tom. I wonder how many LPs went to trash instead of to new collectors this year up in NY/NJ. Sad to think about it.

Our local goodwill has had no LPs for a long time, but magically a couple bins were there this weekend. Nothing for me, though.

Found a few nice classical sides at the Good Will store today:

Holst Planets - LA Phil/Mehta - original 1971 London Records (Nice Review of the new 45rpm elusivedisc reissue of this recording)

Mozart/Brahms/Liszt Organ Music - Karl Richter - DG

Heroic Music for Organ, Brass, Percussion, arr. E. Power Biggs - N.E. Brass/Burgin - Columbia (Armando Ghitalla principle trumpet!  He was my best friend's brother's trumpet teacher in early 80s. The brother is now principle trumpet Cincinati Symphony and Pops Orchestra, Robert Sullivan)

"World's Fav Piano Music" - Van Cliburn 1972 - (New still sealed!) RCA Red Seal

Schubert Trout Quintet - Budapest String Quartet - Columbia 6eye from 1950. It always amazes me that vinyl like this could be found at a Good Will store next to the supermarket, in Holly Springs, NC 63 years after release. It goes to show that good music reaches all corners of the Earth, and lives forever.

$6 for 6 discs.  :thumb:
