...if I ever brought that up at the Van Alstine forum at AC, I would get a lot of flack for  it…

Some of those guys could get into an argument over whether or not they were arguing.

Good call Tom, however resistance is futile if one has actually tried some. The price seems to be the issue with the deniers.

Charles,
I think I accidentally removed your post on using a Synergistic Research Orange fuse for the power on my AVA SET 120. Are there any other fuses out there that you’d recommend, or is the SR orange the best way to go?
Thanks,
Nick

Thanks, Jack. I’ll take a look. With the results I’ve been getting on various tweaks recently, I’m open nowadays to trying most everything… as long as it’s reasonable 💵

I don't have any idea how it "sounds" compared to the SR fuses but it is as high up the food chain as I am willing to go for this particular tweek.  Also not a fan of giving money to SR anyway. There is also an orange colored ceramic fuse from Littelfuse that is available from Mouser that sounds good to me at $10.

Jack,
Thanks for the info on the Littelfuse. Now if I could just find that PDF I saved on the SET 120 which should list the fuse values…

Going off memory because the manuals at the other house it's 5 amp on the speakers, 8 amp on the rails and 10 amp on the IEC. I only changed the IEC fuse with an AMR because I had spares.

IIRC the audio/medical grade Littlefuse is only available in 5mm X 20mm.

Jack, It looks like a slow blow 6A. It’s quite late and there are multiple listings for fuse ratings on the back of the chassis… for tube, ss… So it finally occurred to me that Frank must have multiple uses for this chassis.

Thank goodness I’m listening to music after futzing for a couple of hours setting up Roon core on a different iMac. But finally all is well… and quite musical 🎶  :thumb:

It’s a user friendly fuse location and I’ll pull it out of there tomorrow morning to see what size it is. Not messing with fuses this late at night…or should I say early morning 😳

That is the 1/4in x 1-1/4in style slow blow fuse with glass tube if you cannot find it by metric size.

Thanks for confirming that, Rich. I will be searching tonight to see what’s available in that size.
