Ok guys NY Ravers and Syndrome members. We are going to have an old-fashioned Rave. We have not done this in years. Mike (Top Round) and Levi will be there. I'm trying to get Mr. Blue Towel to make an appearance. We will have 2 systems going. 1 in the Livingroom and 1 down in the den. I stream Tidal to BS Node to MHDT Dac so if you want to bring CD's someone bring a player. Other gear we have Audio Physic speakers, Zu Omens, Triangle Bro3. Rogue sphinx 3 and Willsenton R8 tube Int. I am on the Orchard Audio Starkrimson tour, so I hope to have it by then. Den system stays as is. Living room system, we can swap some Schiit out. Oh, I made a funny. I will throw you guys some food. Deepak, BARRY, Rollo, Emil, Pete, Tmazz and whoever else we expect to see guys. I think the last Rave we had like 100 people. So, no go this time. Like to keep at max 15 or so. PM me and I will send you the address again.

No Biggie Chris, I get an eye injection 4 times a year & I'm maintaining 20-20 whereas my father was legally blind by 65 as these injections weren't available for him. So while I have good vision, it's the eye strain when behind the wheel that keeps me grounded. I'm already 4 years past my father/grandfather so all in all, I'm handling diabetes pretty good.
But damn I wish I could join you guys,,, it has been a minute (read decade) since my last NY RAVE. :thumb:

Funny story, last December, I had a senior moment and totaled the Magnum at an intersection (no one got hurt). But I went online and had shipped up to Vermont from Kentucky a rust-free 2010 Chrysler 300C with 79,000 miles, AWD and a HEMI so yes, I still have "A" HEMI and a 5 year car loan on a 12 year old car to go along with it. :rofl:

I shall see you and others next Saturday. I look forward to meeting new phriends, listening to different types of music as well as hearing what other audio gear in a different environment than mine is capable of.
Besides the cheese cake, I'll bring a USB stick with music ranging in artists from A to Z, in uncompressed and lossless format (WAV), ranging from 16/44 to 24/192 PCM "live" recordings, the source of which ranging from FM, AUD, MTX, SBD, DSBD, etc. and spanning different genres and over 40 years. About 15 hours of material.
Between that, your streaming capability and music that others are likely to bring, I'm sure we'll have plenty to listen to.

Moved one system into the living room. We will have to deal with the not so ideal acoustic situation. I figured the couch would help. Orchard Starkrimson Gan Fet will be here Thursday and hoping to receive the Class D Audio Gan Fet in time for Saturday. Downstairs will consist of Rogue Sphynx 3, BS Node, MHDT Orchard DAC, Audio Physics Classic 20 and Triangle Bro 3. Deepak will be bringing a CD Player, Falafel and a 300B amp. I have some small DAC's also. Schiit Modi and a Topping D50S. Should be fun. :thumb:

Well, the good news is the Class D Gen 5 Gan Fet amp arrived today. The bad news is it's a dud. I'm getting static and the red warning led are blinking. When there is no static, it sounds pretty good out of the box. Waiting to hear back from Class D.
Good news is the Orchard Audio Gan Fet will be here tomorrow!
kind of sucks when you're trying to plan a great day for some peeps.

I was searching tg Agon forums last night and maybe a year or 2 ago Emil posted he bought one then a few weeks later it died. Class D was saying this never happened before

I will tell you after getting through the aggravation of maybe not getting it in time and a few other things I am listening right now, and I will say if this is what Class A sounds like I want more. After all this is what Gan Fet is, the digital version of Class A designs. I wish I had a Class A amp to compare. Maybe I can get Jbtrio to bring his SIT 3 tomorrow. By the way build quality is high school grade. He needs to up his game on the case. Just basically a fancy project box as well as a dedicated shipping box and packing. I understand this amp has clocked many miles around the country but come on. I unpacked it and had a rattle, took off the top and there was a screw rolling around. Tossed that bad boy.

Well at a starting price of 2499.00 I would think it could be squeezed in. I know when Tommy started with the cherry amps and he was bringing them to our raves the build was probably not like they are now. The Mini Gan 5 is rock solid build quality. Have it playing now but not really paying attention. Orchard Audio is in NJ, so I don't know what they are drinking next door, but it seems like they are becoming the Digital Amp capital of the country. We have Tommy O'brien may he rest in peace, Merrill from Merrill Audio and now Leo at Orchard. Hmm... makes you wonder "Orchard" Audio and "Cherry" Amplifiers. Maybe they were classmates or something. I'm just kidding

I like Jazz Rock just about everything but Pditty and Fitty cent oh and no country. I think as long the recording is good the guys will like it

Hope I stay awake for the Rave. I'm enjoying listening to both amps right now. They both have their own unique characteristics. I am definitely digging both of them. What makes things tough is the price differences between the two. Is the Starkrimson worth 3x the price and what exactly is the Mini Gan not giving for the lesser price. We will find out today when everyone has a listen.

First Watt Sit3 courtesy of Joe - we didn't get a chance to listen, but I did this morning so i will give my thoughts on it later.
Looked like the clear winner was the Wilsenton R8 and Zu combo with Joe's Brimar 6sn7's and I thought the Lin Lai's were good. these were just WOW.
The Gan Fet's were hooked up in the den more on that later. Had a few poltergeists why I don't know. Before everyone came all was good. during not so good. This morning all is playing fine.

Thx Evan for hosting. I had a great time catching up with everyone and listening to some tunes. Enjoyed the 6sn7 tube rolling session.
I am going to look at finding some 7n7 with adapters as replacement for Sylvania 6sn7 that Joe brought which for me was one of the top 3 tubes that we tried.

Orchard Audio Starkrimson and ClassD Audio Mini Gan 5 amps

Brief rundown.
I was supposed to work today but called out. I had to give Gan Fet amps a workout. The Class D amp came last week and had issues they sent a replacement, and all was fine. Both amps were good. Come rave time Deepak and I were having problems with getting both amps to work properly. We actually gave up. Stayed up last night to put all back in place. Amps were working with no problems go figure. I hooked up the FW Sit 3 first just to have a baseline and it did nothing for me. Not what I expected. I played the Orchard for a few hrs and the sound is gorgeous. Very transparent, this is what I expected to hear from the first Watt. I have heard the FW in Joes system and it was excellent. I switched to the Class D and it had some good qualities as the Orchard just not at the same level though but also take into its 1/3 the price so I would assume Leo must work some magic in there. Well after a few hours of listening to the Class D it happened... ZZZt same as the first. I'm done. after a few emails with Class D its going back for a refund. I will not say what went on in the emails, but they are not someone I will work with again. The Gan Fet is a good technology and if by going on Orchards idea of digital Class A it's a winner. Someday maybe I would switch over just not now. I'm happy with the sound from my Rogue so I can't justify the expense of the Orchard.

No no no... You have to hear it on the Orchard Audio Starkrimson. She sings House of the rising sun :duh so good I felt I was bitten by a dog. The whole album is great but the way she sings that song is surreal

I listened for 12 hrs straight and there is no congestion, each instrument is clearly seperated from each other. Just so clear without any harshness. Just organic sounding. If you listen to Tom Martens review on Youtube he explains exactly what I mean. He's a pro Im not

Ok, I understand. Someone here has one and made very favorable comments. I’ve got speakers coming with AMT tweeters and I’m moving, so maybe after that I might audition one.

I saw the Tom Martens review and it was impressive. A very low noise floor is important and I appreciate an amp that excels at detail retrieval and doesn’t sound sterile.

Orchard Audio. The Mini Gan 5 couldn't hold a torch to it. My Rogue Sphinx 3 is better than the Mini. The GaN Fet has to be experienced.

Evan, It sounds like you really liked the Starkrimson. I am supposed to also demo a Peachtree GaN 400 which may sound similiar, but quite different from the Purifi class D modules.

You got it. I will tell you after getting through the aggravation of maybe not getting it in time and a few other things I am listening right now, and I will say if this is what Class A sounds like I want more. After all this is what Gan Fet is, the digital version of Class A designs. I wish I had a Class A amp to compare. Maybe I can get Jbtrio to bring his SIT 3 tomorrow. By the way build quality is high school grade. He needs to up his game on the case. Just basically a fancy project box as well as a dedicated shipping box and packing. I understand this amp has clocked many miles around the country but come on. I unpacked it and had a rattle, took off the top and there was a screw rolling around. Tossed that bad boy.
Well, excellent sound is first on my list, but good quality build sure is important. I’m sympathetic to manufacturers trying to keep costs down, but I’m one of those guys who’s willing to pay more for a sold case and aesthetics. Can that be done for another $200-250 on this unit that I’d be willing to pay, I have no idea.
Well at a starting price of 2499.00 I would think it could be squeezed in. I know when Tommy started with the cherry amps and he was bringing them to our raves the build was probably not like they are now. The Mini Gan 5 is rock solid build quality. Have it playing now but not really paying attention. Orchard Audio is in NJ, so I don't know what they are drinking next door, but it seems like they are becoming the Digital Amp capital of the country. We have Tommy O'brien may he rest in peace, Merrill from Merrill Audio and now Leo at Orchard. Hmm... makes you wonder "Orchard" Audio and "Cherry" Amplifiers. Maybe they were classmates or something. I'm just kidding
Guess I should’ve checked on the price…I didn’t know it was $2,499. So a better enclosure would definitely be in order….
It is a project that I am working on but do not have an estimate for completion. Right now the current state of the supply chain is making buying anything in quantities almost impossible.

Just an update on the Orchard Starkrimson Ultra. When I demoed the unit on the tour for the Rave we were having issues with using the Rogue soley as a preamp because it just did not have enough gain to push the amp. The Orchard is balanced on the Rogue is unbalanced so simply using adapter plugs doesn't help with gain issues. When I ordered my amp, I also ordered Leo's active RCA to XLR adapter which also has an additional 8db of gain.

Did it help? yes it did, and the signal is just as clean as it should be. I also purchased the Art Audio clean box which is also an RCA to XLR adapter but with adjustable gain up to an additional 25db to compare it to the Orchard convertor. It also worked but with additional distortion in the path. It didn't affect the signal it just wasn't clean. It made the system sound like it was off the shelf at Best Buy.
Anyone wants to come for a listen hit me up.
