Here is an orchestra piece that will test your entire system, from bass thru treble.

Steve,
Can you advise a specific description of this. I’d like to find it on Tidal or Qobuz.
Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,

I believe the same orchestra also performed this selection. Although not conclusive, the same conductor and same
light brown/reddish hair clarinet player.

It pleases me so much to see this young group do such a wonderful job playing this piece.

Cheers and great week.

Hi Steve,
The orchestra isn’t on either Tidal or Qobuz, so I just enjoyed the YouTube performances. Thanks for posting.
Nick

Your welcome Nick. That is why I stuck with YT premium. So many more selections and the quality is good enough to obtain
really great sound, although I would like to see YT go high rez.

Here is one you might like, pure percussion.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjPoq6LJA9M

And this one again to compare recording quality.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjPoq6LJA9M

steve

Hi Steve,
Normally, a percussion solo wouldn’t interest me very much. But this guy was amazing. Control, dynamics and the sound was amazing. I found a couple of other YouTube Videos by Morten Lund and watched them as well. Thanks for the treat.
Nick

Again, your welcome Nick. I agree this recording is simply amazing. I have to study this selection a little more, but I think this may be the highest quality recording on YT Premium I have ever heard. The cymbals, top hats are so delicate I think I am hearing Heils, the drums, well......

I think I can confidently state that if someone doubts the quality, they need to address their musical system etc.

A few more percussion for those who like such. Each is totally different, and vary in recording quality. A littl e percussion
festival.

As one can see below, I love this song. I tried to find the best violin versions with the iconic solo.
Not in any particular order, One might be better or worse than another. I am starting with the iconic

Here is another that has an incredible clarinet and sax at the beginning and violin solo at the end. Too bad those
those segments are not longer in duration.

I came across this selection, and unbelievable ambience, hall presence.  I have no idea of the individual
selections there in, so please forgive me if any offend.

Here is another one with incredible ambience. The hall is just huge and one can "hear it". Instruments are nice as well.
If one does not perceive the ambience, then one has some work to do.

I posted the links below before in this string, but added for comparison to when she was ~17.

Here is a selection in which a 1713 Stradi is compared to a 1743 Guarneri. Of course both are world class violins.
This selection is good for testing the resolving power of one's system/venue in the midrange (without bass/lows
present).

Cheers and enjoy.

Steve,
Quite interesting and much to admire in what such artisans accomplished. It did make me curious about preservation and restoration of violins and, of course, utube has videos about that.

Hi Nick,

Yes, I was also wondering about preservation, and how much, if any, of the great characteristics have been altered when restoring such fine instruments. Another question to me is what strings is she using in the violins? What about each violin sounding different from the same manufacturer?

Did she use the same bow with each instrument since that affects the sonics, at least from someone who owns a hundred grand violin and has accompanied Itzhak Perlman once told me. I assume what he said was true.

Here is another selection that I think is tough to reproduce. See what you guys think about its quality.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Frq7rjEGzs&feature=youtu.be

Cheers and thanks for the great questions/comments Nick.

After listening to Morricone's works, he is pure genius imo. Although not a reference quality selection, here is another.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY0LYitEVxo

Morricone's music has a way of leading you through the human experience, the emotions, that very few others can.
Just imagine actually being present at these live performances.
The examples in this string are why I continue to work so hard towards audio reproduction perfection.

Here is one comment one posted that I thought was accurate.

"Ennio Morricone is one of the most creative composers ever. He literally invented a new genre of music, and no one since has been able to match its unique emotional resonance. Rock meets opera meets folk meets Wagnerian epic symphony, and all in the service of a relatively low budget western made by an Italian in Spain. Talk about over-delivering!"

What a genius he was.

steve

ps. Imo they could have done without the hanging man though.

Guitar is one of my favorite instruments. Found this video of guitarist Michael Lucareill. Have just listened to a few songs, but quite enjoy his playing. Also found him on Qobuz, so I can stream via Roon on the big rig  :thumb:
