HAL's Tonehenge Recordings
« on: June 14, 2016, 04:46:40 AM »
Last Saturday was asked to record a Steinway Grand Piano for a solo piano concert at a local church.  The studio owner and recording engineer was away on travel, and we preplanned the recording.

Setup three stereo mic arrays.  Two X-Y pairs and one OSS Jecklin Disc stereo mic for the recordings with two recording systems.  My setup was a HAL MS-3 running Adobe Audition with an Echo Audio Echo2 ADA, Earthworks M550 Omni mounted to the Jecklin Disc and Earthworks 1022 mic preamp directly to the ADA, no compression at all.  The Echo2 was running 24bit/192KHz and the other recorder was running 24bit/96KHz.

Took pictures of the setup and still editing pieces to individual tracks for listening.  The recording studio is going to master the tracks and produce a CD for the artist to release.  No discussion of any HiRez media at all at this point.

It was a very good performance of Chopin, Stravinsky, Beethoven, Liszt and Schumann pieces.  The Beethoven piano sonata OP111 was my favorite of the evening.

Sometimes you just have to give things a try to see what can be done.  This was one of those occasions for a live performance to record.   :D
