I read on another music forum that Jazz is now the least listened to style of music in the US, behind classical. Of course, it was a prog rock forum, and prog wasn't even considered a musical genre in that poll.

How sad is that?

Which begs the question.... what is "jazz"?
We all know its definition from the 50's and 60's (see above links), but what is "new jazz"?
Every time I turn around, there's a  new sub-sub-genre and nothing is just what it is anymore.
So yea, I could see it being dead because it's not re-badged as NuJazz, or...?

Thanks Bob, nice selections!  :thumb:

When you hear jazz nowadays, on TV or in a restaurant or at the mall, grab your wallet cuz they're trying to sell you something expensive!

Thanks Rich.
There's something special about those late 50's, early 60's "club" recordings that just sound magical. Even on Youtube.

Wow, that puts an exclamation point on it!
Have you heard the Count Basie "Sunday at the Savoy" XRCD?
https://youtu.be/BGx50nI5asU

I like how every member of the band "gets a turn" as the song lazily carries on.
I think this song should have been called, "Long Slow Train"
