My son is a Junior this year as well, and the time to start is now. Unless you like waiting until the last minute, or already have a solid idea about the type of school they're looking for. There is much to consider; Size, Location/Distance from Home, Broad or Narrow Focus, Competitiveness. Happy to chat about it.
My Daughter is now a sophomore at TCNJ. She had been granted nearly a full scholarship to the Honors School at Ramapo, Honors Dorms, Honors Classes, bunch of perks. But after hanging out on the two campuses a couple of times, eating in the cafeteria, talking to current students, etc. She decided on TCNJ over Ramapo, it's costing me quite a bit more, but she felt she fit in better there. She's happy, and has made the Deans List every semester so far, so I imagine the extra money is worth it and have no complaints with her decision.
If you'd like to talk about my experiences, I'd be happy to meet you at a diner or coffee shop one evening.
