Update 2/24/14:

I've got the Onkyo CD player hooked up to my office system directly, without the EE Minimax DAC right now.

 • Little Dot Mk.III Headphone amp as Pre-amp
 • BK ST-140 Amp
 • NHT Super One speakers

Only have about 10 hours on it, so far.  Sounds pretty decent, but not the greatest!  I've not heard this much bass from the Super Ones ever, but the bass is very "bloated" and undefined.

I am going to try and give it some more hours and see (hear) if the bass tightens up any.  Eventually, I will route it through the EE Minimax DAC and see what the differences are.

Stay tuned! :thumb:

It'll get better with time, but it'll never touch the DAC.

Thanks for the update Bill! Sounds like you're having fun!

Rich

New toys are always fun.  Messing around with different ways to set them up (e.g.: with or without DAC) makes things more interesting. But... Just having ANY kind of system back up and running in my home office is a joy! :thumb:

It's amazing how work doesn't seem as much like work when you can have tunes playing at your desk. Phone calls are the only time that (for obvious reasons) the system can't be enjoyed.  Otherwise, I'm a foot-tappin' fool in the new "Inner Sanctum Office".

Oh... BTW, for anyone who's interested, my Sennheiser HD598's sound much better through the Little Dot Mk.III than through the headphone jack in the Onkyo CD player.

I decided to give the Onkyo C-7030 a try.  It was $159.50 on Amazon and I had a $25.00 gift card from Christmas, so it ended up being $134.50 with free shipping.  We'll see how this works out.

Thanks everyone!

Hi

How is it going with the Onkyo as a transport or a CDP as you have spent more time with it?

Jumpimg on the thread, I am in the same position, I am thinking Teac H750 cd player. Have heard it is a solid transport but I personally have no experience with it.

Hi Jim

Check out this older thread about a TEAC CDP.

http://www.audionervosa.com/index.php?topic=4202.0

I think the one talked about here is the previous generation CDP to the TEAC H750.

Sorry for not reporting back sooner with an update.  The Onkyo CDP has balanced itself out now.  No more boomy, bloated bass.  Not a bad player for the $$$.
