I understand "to each his own", but I just don't get the justification for spending the money for some of these city dwellings. I've got a 2000 square foot house on over 2 acres on a dead end road in the middle of the woods. I've got so much space and seclusion that I shoot guns in my yard. I can pee off the front deck and nobody can see me. Three beds, three baths and a basement as large as the upstairs. All that, and I pay half what that San Fran place is going for.
I've seen TV shows where folks buy parking spots for more than what my house costs.  Duh!

My daughter just moved into a one bedroom corner apartment in Brooklyn with her boyfriend. So, bedroom, living room with an integrated kitchen, bathroom. Sure, there's a wall of windows with a great view from the 16th floor. $3500/month

Wow. I guess it's all a matter of perspective.... "Great view" and all.
For me, there's nothing sixteen floors up in the middle of the city that I'd want to see. They'll never see 25 turkey wander across the yard, or a foe and a couple fawns froliking in the puddles out in the yard.

Here's a shot out of the audio/home theater room window this morning. We're in the middle of a BUNCH of rain, so everything is bright beautiful green.
Spectacular as far as I'm concerned.
Your daughter might think this is the most ugly thing in the world.  ROFLMAO

Looks fantastic to me Bob. But then I actually grew up on a farm.

My wife and I were once sitting outside on the balcony of Marriott hotel, Carolina Beach, about 10PM. We were up towards the top floor, maybe 8 stories up looking out over the ocean. We started to see this very slight orange glow coming from out in the Atlantic. She said, "Is that a oil rig on fire?" I said, "No rigs out there. Maybe it's a tanker on fire." As the minutes rolled by it got brighter and brighter. We were confounded by what it might be. Finally brighter red orange light appeared, like flames. I was trying to figure out the distance of the horizon from 8 stories up. (13 miles.) We were worrying a little. Soon we realized it was the moon rising over the ocean and had a good laugh at our anxiety. Over the next 2 hours the moon bloomed in the sky, one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen. One of those perfect moments.
