Getz/Gilberto
Stan Getz (Artist), Joao Gilberto (Artist), Antonio Carlos Jobim (Artist) | Format: Audio CD

24 more hours on Bill's Harvest IIs, they're getting there, I hear it in Astrud's voice, sounds more like a 'live' woman.

Pacifica is my fav string quartet. I think they are the best in the world right now.  Technically and musically nobody can touch them. I heard them play Beethoven op 133 live (string quartet #16, the last thing he wrote) then walked to my car and put on my favorite op133 recording by Prazak Qt, it felt simple compared to their deep spiritual feeling. This CD won 2009 Grammy for "Best Chamber Music Performance." SQ on Naxos is always top notch.   Hearing Pacifica's Dvorak E-flat on the radio prompted me to get nice speakers to play them, which started my hifi quest.  I can't wait til they visit again. The Raleigh Chamber Music Guild has brought them in twice. About every 3-4 years they come back.

Carter is modern, but humble and meaningful. Their precise playing and feeling makes it come alive. A high school band playing this would be unbearable.

I'm really glad to see the traffic on this thread picking up. As I have said before, IMO this is one of the most valuable threads on all of AN. Talking about hardware is great, but in reality how many  of us buy hardware more than once or twice a year. I play music every day. and between used LPs and CDs (Yeah Crack House!   :yay2:) and borrowing from the library I can add to my music collection of a very regular basis. As a matter of fact I picked up three albums just this week based on recommendations from this thread. To everybody who posts here, thanks for sharing and keep the info coming.  :thumb:

On another note, I had a really cr@ppy day today. got to listen to two albums this morning and then all of a sudden mt ears clogged up solid. I've been fighting a sinus infection for almost two weeks and I guess it settled into my ears. It got so bad that I could barley hear my wife talk. Not that thin in and of itself is necessarily a bad thing,  but it really messed up my stereo listening.

If I am going to get rid of this thing I will need to get some extra sleep,   so that's all for tonight. Will check in again tomorrow.

Tom

Genius Loves Company [Enhanced]
Ray Charles, Ray Charles And the Count Basie Orchestra | Format: Audio CD

Shadowlight turned me onto this, and found it at PREX for me as well, lots of hits, a few misses. The duet with BB King is great.
