I'm pissed:
That I lost my brand new prescription sunglasses that I only had for 2 weeks. I need them in a week and it takes 3 weeks to get another pair from Zenni.com DAMMIT! $65 down the tube.

That I ordered the wrong plugs and air filter for my daughters car. It's cost me $15 to mail them back when it was delivered for free. How does that work?

That the 13 yards of mulch I paid a couple 16yo highschoolers to install last week is 5 inches thick and is huge chunks of wood that will never rot down in 100 years and it's spilling out of my beds onto walks and lawn everywhere.

So I put on one of my cheer-up albums, Blakey Moanin. The 24/192K version on Tidal. yipee MQA! I crank it up to 80 on my DAC which is fucking loud as hell, Drum Thunder Suite. Yes, I'm pissed and this feels good. But it's too bright and edgy and I keep hearing these big thuds. Like someone is pounding on my house with a sledgehammer.

It's a vinyl LP ripped to digital. I really hate that. You hear the pops and grit and bumps in the night. And they call it remastered. Their pussy little 5" 60Hz remastering monitors don't hear any of it.

The RVG Edition of the album is on Tidal 16/44 and it's in mono and it's excellent. The tone is right, the mix is natural like the vinyl and there are no thuds.  Crank it up!

Found my sunglasses!  :thumb:

She is one of the best pianists on the scene now. The Prokofiev side is awesome. The piano is powerful and clear, very dynamic. But the tone is dark and easy to listen, even turned up way too loud. Sounds like a big Bosendorfer, like butter.

A terrible bootleg recording of Bird playing at his very best on record, in Harlem, 1952 with his string orchestra and quintet. Worse SQ than you can imagine, but unbelievable playing by Bird, a once in a century musical genius.

When my mother passed away last month it was her request that we have no wake or funeral service , but rather we all go out and do something fun in her memory. So last Sunday, the family and a bunch of friends all got together and did one of her favorite things, went to see a performance of The Boston Pops at Tanglewood. We sat out on the lawn and had lunch and just as we had finished packing way the last of the food, and 5 minutes before the start of the concert it began to rain. So we sat there under umbrellas in the pouring rain for the entire concert until the sun came out just as they started the second encore number. Murphy's Law. But that allowed us to break down, pack the cars and have a little informal memorial service in the sunshine.

All in all it was a successful day and a pleasant  time was had by all. Everyone left soggy, but happy.

We did a little pregaming and listened to these in the car on the way there.

Sounds like a beautiful day and fine tribute to a lady with a child's spirit.

Sorry for your loss, Tom.

Another historic recording on CD that was ripped from vinyl instead of the original tape.

SQ is so bad I had to bail out. All vinyl noise. My brother has the whole Bird on Dial series on vinyl, printed in europe in the 70s. There is no noise like this. They were done from the tapes, only 30 years after recording. I bet the tapes don't even exist of a lot of these old jazz recordings.

There is a "Charlie Parker: The Essentials" on Tidal. It doesn't exist outside tidal so maybe it is there own Bird collection. It has a lot of tracks, so it's not a CD. At first the SQ was good for the first track. Then the 2nd and 3rd tracks had severe digital problems, that skipping sound when a CD ripper can't get the data off the disc and there's no bit-perfect rescan enabled. Full scale noise blips twice per second. Another Charlie Parker technology fail.

All these cool-dude, so-called jazz-loving presidents like Bubba and Bama should have designated Bird a National Treasure and asked the Smithsonian to create a reference quality archive of his entire canon from the best surviving sources. Certainly one of America's top 5 finest and most valuable musicians should be preserved. Just pissing away.

At least it's all still available on vinyl on ebay.
