Floor bounce question
« on: June 03, 2016, 09:06:40 AM »
Is there any correlation between the distance of your subs and the frequency the sub X over is at, and floor bounce? To the listener.

I don't believe floor bounce is an issue with subs as the wavelength at low frequencies is very long.

Floor bounce calculator:

With sub at 10", ears at 37", distance 8 feet, the floor bounce is at 970Hz, so the sub crossover freq is irrelevant.

Obviously if a sub is down firing, the floor bounce is part of the design. But wait, why do they sound better upside down? Or why do front firing subs sound better when raised off the floor a foot or so?

The traditional wisdom says put a sub in the corner. Nay Nay, I say. Put them in between your speakers away from a corner, and get them off the floor. You may have to adjust the levels a bit, but they will sound faster and cleaner and probably integrate better. Getting them away from a boundary will reduce that boom, making them more articulate.

Try it.
Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you'll have to blow your nose.
