What Did You Do When You Thought You Were Done?
« on: January 21, 2017, 07:44:42 AM »
I am loving my system's sound these days. The rum-fueled 105+db sessions always sounded great, and I recently added Walker HDL's, which improved low db listening as well.
I've been comparing the sound differences in how/where the speaker wire and jumpers are utilized. I've settled on speaker wire to the upper frequency terminals and jumpers down to the woofers. If you haven't experimented with this, you should.
I understand there is a certain 'need to tweak' aspect of this that defies logic; I really do enjoy the hell out of my system, yet feel the need to mess with it.

System:
Legacy Focus SE with AMT Tweeter
Luxman L-590AX Mk2 Integrated
Esoteric K-07x SACD
Anti Cables 2.1 Speaker wire/jumpers
Audience Au24Se interconnects
Shunyata power cords
Walker Reference High Definition Links

Luxman L- 590 AX MK2
Esoteric K-07X
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit SB
Audience Au24SE
PI Cat6
Spatial Audio M3 Turbo S
Stereo Hsu ULS-15 Mk2
Supra Classic 6.0

I've been on a tear there- been averaging 3-5 new cd's a week. New music, and old music that's new to me

I'm no Carnac the Magnificent, but I'm guessing the "magic stuff" has something to do with cabling.
Due to my domestic situation, the speaker cable lengths are roughly 20ft and 26 ft. This makes the more expensive stuff prohibitively expensive...

Between this hobby and cars, it is never ending story of going faster or sounding better.  :thumb:

Speed is very addicting and so is good sound.

That's why I get up in the morning and go to work everyday.

PS: I contribute to Pete's retirement fund on a regular basis.  :thumb:  Dave's too.  :thumb:

What about incorporating a computer into your system?

With that killer DAC you'd be set. Less than $100 for a Raspberry Pi - easy to set up with free software.

At this point I couldn't imagine NOT having the internet's music resources being fully integrated into my systems.

There is so much freaking music available for free. Music I've never heard and will never hear again, breathing life into me for the time that we share our existence - I listen to a Czech classical station that broadcasts in greater than CD quality all day. No ads.

Makes going back to my familiar stuff seem old and stale.

+1 on internet radio. Even if it's compressed, very enjoyable to discover new music.  Then you can buy CD if desired.

Mike, can you post a link to that Czech station? Thanks!

The station is (address coming from Moode Audio Player as it plays)

http://amp1.cesnet.cz:8000/cro-d-dur.flac

Czech Radio Classical (FLAC)

I haven't been able to play this station with JRiver or Logitech Media Server but I didn't try too hard.

The way-cool program VLC Player plays it perfectly on my local PC speakers, and now I can finally send it easily to my main system by using a Rasby Pi running Moode. Moode is set to upsample everyting to 192, so the station comes in at 16/48 and goes to the DAC at 24/192. Sounds nice. This station's address is one of hundreds(?) pre-loaded when you run Moode. Pick your top 10 and you have more new music then you can ever consume. Free plus $50 for the Pi.

Rich, let me know if you get it working. They play a lot of obscure (to me) classical. It's great.

0.0% chance of me hearing any of this music before the internet.

James, the cool thing w/ PC audio is you can start with a little side-attachment thingy (Pi? Chromecast? Bluesound? Heos...) and use it as an internet "radio" player, or you can centralize your system around the PC and go as far down that rabbit hole as you can stand.

I was listening to D-Dur last night on 128k, it is a great playlist. Thanks for the FLAC link. Sonos should be able to pull it in. This menu may help too: http://amp1.cesnet.cz/

James, a Raspberry Pi is very cheap hardware and the operating system and music playback software are free. It is simple and easy to make it work.
