Saw this on my Roon Overview, the first album in the New Albums section. It was just released this Friday. Of course, the album cover caught my eye, as it was intended to do. Notice the log? How's that for photoshopping, dougie?!?
Apparently the track
"Barbie Dreams" is turning heads and dropping jaws even among the most hardened and shockproof of the rap underworld. She insults every other rap artist in the most degrading and harsh way possible. Showbiz 2018 style!
Definitely "M" for Mature Audiences. Every flavor of evil and every deadly sin are thoroughly explored.
The harmonies and production quality are pretty good, as expected for a major artist's 4th album. With her irresistable cloud of controversy and the sexy cover, and the good harmonies and production, the album will be very successful.
SQ and mix is pretty good, albeit a bit bass heavy but true to the genre. I got the equipment to do this album justice and it rocks in it's own way. I think da yoots will dig it, and learn a few new words. Win/Win!
The themes and language are pretty rough, even for me. One production flaw I noticed is that the sub tones (one note bass drones) are not cleanly edited to start and stop at zero volts, so there are lots of wicked transient snaps at the start and end of the sub tones, or whatever they're called dub step whatever. Fortunately the frequency balance is so tilted toward the bottom that transient snaps are relatively low in volume even when volume is turned up to unbearable bass level.
There's 19 tracks on this album, tho they all pretty much say the same thing. Shock shock shock, but, unfortunately, no awe. I'm halfway through the album now (yes I'm still listening!) and it seems like it will never end.
One positive I took away from this "listening experience" (musical rape) is that the very prominent synthesized low- and mid-bass content demonstrates convincingly that my room needs more acoustic treatment work...
...and that I married the right girl.
