Peter, Bethany & Rufus: Puff & Other Family Classics

Peter Yarrow, Bethany Yarrow and Cellist Rufus Cappadocia

From Amazon:

"It is nice to hear Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul & Mary, recording with his adult daughter. They have a good combination of voices and do a nice set of folk music. Always good to hear "Puff" again, but there is a lot of enjoyable music on this. If you like Peter Yarrow or folk music, this is a set for you."

Al Caiola & His Orchestra: Italian Street Songs

This disc was mixed in with a bag of loose CDs I bought at the Crack House. I don't think I ever would have pick it up on its own , but there were several Verves in the bag that I wanted so this just came along with the rest of the bunch. I was actually surprised how much I ended up liking this disc. The sound is much better than I expected and the music reminds me of Sunday Dinner at my Grandparents house when I was 5 years old. Charlie & Bill, I think this one will bring back memories for youse guys as well.  :D

John Denver: Whose Garden Was This

I picked this up because it contained a number of covers of late 60s folk/rock songs. I put it on the turntable and couldn't even listen to 30 seconds of any given song. This has got to be one of the poorest recording jobs I have ever heard. Every peak is driven right into distortion. I am shocked that a company as well respected as RCA could let a piece of sonic trash like this out the door. (I guess the sound engineers from the classical side of the house never worked on or listened to the Pop releases.) I can only hope that there is really nothing wrong with the recording and the person who donated it to the Crack House played the hell out of it and what I am hearing is physical groove wear and not the sound of the original recording. But the record does not visually appear to worn or played a lot , so I doubt it

2. A TAS superlist ?
3. With the hours that you are up are you a vampire ?

1) We have a thrift shop in town that sells LPs for 69 cents and CDs for $2 or less. My son nicknamed it "The Crack House"  because he says I get all twitchy if I don't get there every couple of days for a "fix".

2) The TAS Superdisc List is a list published periodically by Harry Pearson in The Absolute Sound magazine of what he considers CDs  an LPs of outstanding or reference quality. shown below  is a link to a copy of an old list on the Acoustic Sounds web site. I  know there are more current ists that have been published, but this should give you an idea of what it is all about. There are quite a few 180 reissues that are on the current list, but what ever is here still sounds good.

3) Vhy do you ask?
Step into my parlor and we can discuss this further. Come after dark...........
