Quote
"The group is called Grosse Abfahrt. This is the name I gave the project on the occasion of its first recording. In German, it means 'great departure'. The project is to take a core group of Bay Area musicians and put them together with out of town guests, usually Europeans. Always free improvisation.

Nobody can play jazz blues slower or more soulfully than Phineas Newborn Jr.  He was from Memphis TN, and was the mentor of my mentor James Williams.  I never saw him in person, but James gushed about Phineas. Think of a ultra-sophisticated Bobby Timmons.

This trio record has nice clean sound, airy soundstage, great bass and drums recording, piano sound is a little compressed, but good enough, and always Haynes' fiery accompaniment simmering, even on the ballads and slow blues.

He plays Body and Soul on this, some of the best Freddie Hubbard I have heard, from 1969

Nice groovy hip side from the trumpeter who replaced Miles Davis in Charlie Parker's band. "KD" Kenny Dorham was also the first trumpeter in the Jazz Messengers. He is a real trumpeters' trumpeter. The richest harmonies of any trumpet bopper, and some of the most intricate lines. With Joe Henderson.

One of the best sounding copies of this album that I have ever heard (including several "audiophile" reissues.)

Bill Crofut & Chris Brubeck - Unsquare Dance

A little bit of folk, a little bit of jazz, a little bit of classical and a whole lot of fun - good sound as well.   :thumb:

I haven't been posting on this forum for a while because my corp IT dept pulled Firefox off of my computer and IE does not give me the "Copy Image Location" option that I use to post the graphic files here (my wife went out shopping this afternoon so I got a chance to steal her laptop and post these using her copy of Firefox) Can anybody give me a hint on how to post album cover graphics here using IE8? Thanks

Pink Floyd - The Alternate Side of the Moon

A collection of work in progress mixes, out takes and acoustic demos from the original Dark Side of the Moon sessions, Supposedly from the original session tapes. Includes solos and sound effects that were pulled from the final mix and longer versions of some songs that were trimmed for the final release. Since these were in progress work mixes the sound is not as good as the finished versions, but they provide interesting historical insight into the creative process that produced this watershed rock album. For only $11 this is a must have for any DSOTM aficionado. It looks like some kind of bootleg CD and the only place I have ever seen it was at Mr. Cheapo's in Mineola, NY. Listed below is the URL for their web site:
