Tchaikovsky: 1812 - Solti/Chicago Symphony
London CD
The first time I listened to this it was in the car and I was impressed by the good balance it struck between the volume of the orchestra and the dynamic punch of the canons. I thought this might have the potential to be a top shelf 1812 recording. Unfortunately when I listened to it on the main system this turned out not to be the case. While itdid indeed show the same good dynamic balance, the rocording itself is rather flat and lifeless there is very little sense of air nor any real hall ambience at all.
the car stereo is not capable of resolving the kind of detail the I found lacking when playing this CD on the main system, so I was not looking for them in the car and thougt it sounded good in there. But this CD could not deliver the kind of sound I expect from by main rig.
Ahhhh, the double edged sword of a high end audio system.......
