Ceiling speakers
« on: January 28, 2016, 12:43:47 PM »
Recently I installed ceiling speakers to stream music on my main floor. Casual Tidal streaming for background. Didn't want any gadgets like radios or anything. Just a Multizone Yamaha Receiver and ceiling speakers in every room. I have to say there are some really nice ceiling speakers. I listened to lots in show rooms and ended up with Paradigm.

If you are going to do this don't be afraid to spend a bit more and move up the line with these drivers. The difference between the bottom and reference level Paradigm is notable. Put their Reference dual coil voice driver in the kitchen. That thing really punches out the sax and horns really nice compared to the base models 8in I have in my living room.
Everything about that driver is better.

Also do not just sit the driver on the ceiling panel without a box. Go to Home Depot and buy an electrical light box used shield the light from insulation (if you need it). Halo makes light boxes for $3.00 each and they work great. I need them for insulation. Can't just pack insulation on top of the driver in the attic. You can put insulation in the box once it's sealed though.

I guess they were about $9.00
