I only owned 300B, and it was a SE/PP, I ran it in the PP gear most of the time.

Thinking about building Neurochrome 300B diy for upcoming horn speaker project.

A quality speaker with sensitivity of more than 96db for starters. Then no other requirements. Easy as pie.

Nice find . Looks like a contender to me. Price is reasonable.

Cary 572SE MkII that was modified along with a Cary SLP50B that was highly modified.  Huge soundstage width and depth, great LF control with characteristics of both great SE and PP.  Drove 3 ohm loads with authority when called to do so.  Downside?  The Svetlana 572 tubes were unreliable and became vaporware.  That is the ONLY reason I sold them.

Dennis Had has designed some great products and I have total respect for his designs and think they are tremendous performers per dollar.

So many to choose from. Decware, Tektron, Border Patrol, Audio Note, Shindo, Berning, Coincident and lots more. Then 2A3, 300B,50,45,211 tubes to choose from and more yet.
Confusing already. This an get expensive as the tubes are not cheap. Hearing all with a 102db speaker should teach me allot. Looking to cut the chase so suggestions are very welcome.

I'm crashing this party with more of a question... I bought a Luxman class A integrated amp last year and I've fallen in love with the SS class A sound. Is SET another level up? The luscious class A sound was immediately apparent. And no tube hassles- or tube rolling expenses, etc.

Maybe. A different presentation foe sure. Luxman has a great house sound. Very easy on the ears. If you wanted to delve into SET a high sensitivity speaker is your first entry point.

My favorite?  Cary 572 MkII SE.  Power out the wazoo for reasonably sensitive speakers with a holographic soundstage.  Beautifully turned physically and I loved the fact that those 572s produced just the amount of light in my listening room to be a perfect listening space.  Voices came alive and I have never heard another amp produce the timbral and physical character of string bass, organ pedals or a P bass like them.  Highs were crystal clear and pristine.    I mourn.......... I am still sick that I sold them in a moment of weakness and monetary need.  :duh

My favorite SET amp is Neurochrome "Damn Good 300B." Why? Because I just bought the PCBs to build it, so it must be the best! ;)

I'll find out it's not in about a year or so.
