speaker cables
« on: March 20, 2018, 09:22:09 AM »
I have a pair of MIT shotgun speaker cable that are about 30 years old. From time to time I have wanted to replace them but each time I demoed something in my system I have not found a cable to outperform the MIT as of yet. Do speaker cable brands tend to have a "House sound"? In my shopping for a cable brand I would like to at least narrow down the field or steer to something that appeals to  me.

YEs . most cables have a house sound. The cable should just get out of the way. Basically do no harm. For me cables as a tone control is a no go. If one has to "color" the sound something is wrong with components.
To date I like TWL, Tchernov and Wireworld.

DIY - Cut it in half, cut the 2 pieces to desired length, cut off the plugs and you're good to go!  I actually think that Jimmy Marks tried this years back... maybe ask him?

Hi Jim,

You could call Tom Tutay at Transition Audio Designs at (850) 244-3041.
He makes a wonderful speaker cable, very reasonably priced.

  Tell him I sent you.

 Best,
 Bill

Canare 4S11 is superior. In fact I have yet to find a reason to upgrade. If I was going to, I'd probably go with ZenWave. They are technically better and use fancy audiophile connectors with better conductivity.

"Special polyethylene dielectric" - Uh-oh! Have to hear it to know how much music it eats. Looks great for low cost wire tho.

Really happy with Pete's (TWL) cables.
Probably my "till death do we part" cable.

Over at AC, there’s a guy, coz I believe, that did cables a few years ago and they were highly regarded. If I recall correctly, he did a post on what materials to use and how to construct. If there’s a 5 - 10% difference, let’s say, in the sound, then I’m going with the cheap(er) stuff

Now that you guys have posted multiple times about "White Lightning Moonshine" cables, my DIY post from earlier doesn't seem so farfetched!  8)
