Only for people who want "the best!"  ;)

Surprisingly none on the first page are point sources.

Please do not let this thread decline into class warfare. Remember Rule #4. Keep it about the speakers, not the mfgs or buyers. Thanks!

Your point is well taken. However, most of these are not terribly good looking, nor do they contain exotic materials, some may be considered leading edge designs for their entire product line, but many also seem to be one offs.

Just hard to understand how they come up with these price points.

I just wonder how many of them really are "the best" vs just very big and very expensive. Not that I am trying to pass judgement on something that I never heard with my own ears, but just looking at the picture I find it hard to comprehend how they would be able to get that many drives to blend properly into a coherent sound. Not that it can't be done, but it has to be extraordinarily difficult. and I have never heard of most of these companies so I'm not sure what there level of expertise it. I mean even a master speaker builder like Davis Wilson gave up on the huge multi-driver array concept when he discontinued the WAMM.

I guess what I am trying to say ids that big price tags don't impress me, good sound does and all too often the two don't walk hand in hand. And while I agree we shouldn't talk down about a component simply because if it's price I don't think we should exhalt it for thatr reason either.
The only thing that matters is what you measure with your own to ears.

I buy things like these or have them custom-built but not at those prices!!!     :duh

It's funny, I've actually heard several of them, including the Wisdoms, Avantegarde, Hansens & Wilsons... some of the lesser models as well... hi-ho, Kermit the frog here...

You definitely need the right room (that the wife never goes in) & double the amount in electronics (at least)...

Cool to look at & listen (if you get a chance)...

Best looking speaker IMHO-- Steinway Model C (always loved the looks of Steinway speakers)

Speaker I would most like to own-- Westlake SM1 VF

Some of the priced I don't get but I too have heard some of these speakers and will say that some of them are out of this world and I know you would not be able to create the same sound from much less expensive speakers.

Oh well. They are fun to look at as mentioned and if I had that kind of money..... Who knows 8)

There's a lot of money in this world.  My guess the mid-east, China and Brazil may be markets for these over-priced products.

This would a fun speaker, assuming one had a major room and lots of money. At least Westlake's main business is studios and monitoring, so one would hope they know how to build a good speaker. :)

Basically 2% of the industry is ultra highend. Lets add Singapore and Tiawan to the list. Booming over there.
With the prediction of a global recession looming who knows how long these Manf's will continue on.

I hope you're right about Singapore. I am sending out our first order to a Dealer there on Monday.

Depending on what is considered "ultra" high end, this is where we want to be with our Ultra GT preamps (no pun intended) at $30K +/-. The difference is that we also catter to the real world with our sub $10K products with the lowest price being $2,500.

Singapore is the most financial free country in the world. That's where the wealthy people are moving.

I agree, Rich.  Singapore is what Dubai thinks it is and Hong Kong was.
I really enjoy listening to music.

It certainly is a neat list. Plenty of eye candy to look at, dream about, and get inspiration from. It's also a great link to send to our wives, just to enforce concept that we are actually more sane that we really are.

Because what most of us own, is pocket change compaired to these units.
I, for one, will be showing this to my wife.  :thumb:
