dspMusik 2x16 introduction
« on: November 19, 2017, 07:51:16 PM »
Introducing the Danville Signal Processing dspMusik 2x16, 16 channel DSP crossover and HiRez ADC and DAC's. This has the same input structure as the dspMusikLCD presently, but the output system has been increased to 16 channels for larger speaker systems.

The DSP processor is now an Analog Devices ADSP21469 based dspblok with external memory to allow long convolutional filters for things like speaker and room correction.

DSP Concepts Audio Weaver development system version 5.16 supports the increased capabilities for the system.

The ADC module in the system will now permit mnimum phase measurements at 24bit/192KHz using the dspMusik as the digital crossover signal generator with external software like RoomEQ or Room EQ Wizard.  This can also be used for speaker and room correction measurements with software like RoomEQ.

This is the digital crossover to be used with The Megaliths speakers as the final system with the Parasound Halo A23 amplifiers.

Please post any questions about the system and will get answers as needed.

Congrats!
Does this mean FIR filters are possible for xo and eq?
iirc, FIR was not possible on the 8ch?

Rich,
They have added the FIR filters into the new firmware for use.  Will use a very long one for impulse response correction ideas.  Depends on which DSP processor you get as to how big a FIR you can use.  The 21479 in the 8 channel unit has a limit of around 1000 taps.  The 21469 in the 16 channel unit is around 15000 taps.

They also have biquad filter sections to build arbitrary crossover alignments.

There is no automated calculations for those filter coefficients like the Butterworth or Linkwitz-Riley filters.  There are other programs to generate the coefficients available online to do that.

Every channel is independent and depends on the connections required for the system.

The Megaliths 16 channel dspMusikLCD harware is now running the crossover block diagram at Danville. The system will be in testing at HAL on Monday.

The extra capacity available with the ADSP21469 and expanded external memory will allow long FIR convolutional impulse response corretion filters to be added.

The HiRez ADC in the unit will work with external software for High Resolution measurements to be made for improved sound for the correction. Working with a Earthworks measurement mic and mic preamp for the system.

This same capability will allow folks with analog sources that need archiving to do that at 24bit/192KHz resolution via USB to external programs like Adobe Audition of other DAW for digital recording.

Rich,
Thanks!  My early Christmas present after a long time in development.

I will be spending a lot more time in the listening room after all this!

That's a good feeling when it all pays off. Fingers crossed you can kick back soon and just listen for a while. Can you resist tweaking it?

The tweaking at this stage is getting the new hardware and crossover setup.

After that will need multiple beers and music! :)

Today is launch day!

Picking up the president of Danville Signal today for his visit to HAL with the 16 channel dspMusikLCD. Installation and testing start Monday. Visiting a customer install for his VMPS RM50 speakers on Tuesday. Discussions through Wednesday.

First on the agenda Monday is getting The Megaliths running with the new block diagram and measurements to finalize the DSP crossover.

This is going to be interesting!

We have liftoff!

The 16 channel dspMusikLCD arrived yesterday with its designer, Al Clark from Danville Signal for trials with The Megaliths speakers.

Next step is measurements to design the updated crossover and then for room correction.

Pictures when it is setup and running!

 :D

Here is the dspMusik 2x16 in testing with the MS-3 Music Server running The Megaliths crossover design.   Everything is working, so now time to rewire the amplifier array for the full crossover to work.

The dspMusik 2x16 system now works with Room EQ Wizard running on the MS-3 being the signal generator and mic analog input for 24bit/192KHz room measurements to the PC.  This is in testing as it is new with REW 5.19.
