This is a great album. Both pieces are awesome.
I heard Enigma Variations on the English car show "Top Gear" but I didn't know what it was called at the time and I didn't know about shazam yet, so I had to figure it out the hardway, which was very fun. I finally figured out what it was called and bought the only 3 versions I could find on Amazon on CD to pick a favorite, and I liked this one the best. But there are 50 different versions on Tidal! This one is "good enough."
This Dvorak 7th avoids the temptation of self-indulgent conductors (the mozartians) to exaggerate Dvorak's marked tempi for added drama and career enhancement. This one has great tempi and consistent focus on the composer's intent, which is grand and romantic. Many Dvorak ekzpurtz say the 7th symphony is his best. I like the 9th a lot too, especially Bernstein/NYP, which is coming up next.
