Hi Rob,
I don't think there are many audio nuts in WV. Still no electricity in a lot of parts I guess! I've been into audio gear most of my life. It's taken a long time to get where I am now, but my disease has reached it's peak. I no longer obsess about it like I used to. Actually, I only found out about this site from a guy who directed me here from the Audio Circles site where I posted a "for sale" ad. I was quite surprised when I saw the WV audiophiles forum.

Beware, you are never safe, nervosa can return at any time.

I went 17 years without replacing a single piece of hardware and then in less than a year upgraded by power amp, speakers, transport and DAC. (The stock market crashed and people started to panic and offer equipment for pennies on the ridiculous prices - I just couldn't help myself.  aa ) And then my teenage son started to get into it, (of course "liberating" some of the pieces I was replacing ), so now I have a whole other system to wrack my brain over. You just never know what will drag you back in.  #-o

As my wife always says, it's not a hobby, it's a sickness.

Hi tmazz,
Your wife may be right. It probably is more of a sickness than a hobby for lots of folks. It is so easy to get caught up in obsessing over gear, that some guys never get the chance to just relax and enjoy the music because their system is always in transition.  I'm also into recording, and that can even be worse with the amount of gear you need for that. I actually have my CD player up for sale to fund more recording gear. I listen to records more than CDs these days, so I'm trying to talk myself into the idea that it's justifiable to sell it. In the end it is a fun hobby, er, I mean sickness.

Spence, what gear do you use for recording? And what kinds of gigs do you do?

I have a couple Earthworks TC20 mics and a Firepod to use with Sonar 6 Pro. I've done a couple recordings with them, it's fun. But I'm not too serious about it.

My studio is basically a major hobby for personal use only. I used to do a few bands and commercials back in the day but not so much anymore. I'm in the final phases of construction in my never ending quest for perfection. Here's a pic of the latest incarnation.

Spence,   want to make a trip down here for a GTG?  I can let you know when we do the next one.  We usually have 4-10 guys get together.  My friend Danny has a top shelf system and will be having some people over soon.

Rob,
I don't make it out of Morgantown very often, but let me know the particulars when you get more info.

Hey guys,
It's only been 3 1/2 years since the last post, but I thought I'd throw this request out there anyways - Have any of you WV guys ran REW (recording EQ Wizard) in your listening rooms? If any of you live near Morgantown and would like to give me a hand, I'll pay for your services and time.

Well, moving to Charleston WV, I am (from Raleigh).

Actually, taking a transfer to the Charleston office with my employer. Wife and kids will stay back in Raleigh for awhile, hopefully to be joined in Charleston in a year or two.

For now I'll bring part of my system up. Can't be without tunes!

If you guys are active, I'd love to hear about it.

Chris
