What happened to Almarro Audio?
« on: January 15, 2018, 10:21:07 PM »
Does anyone have any idea about what happened to Almarro Audio of Japan? I can't find any info if they have closed down or just ceased distribution outside of Japan.

they seem to have dropped off the face of the earth.  too bad; nice amps.  my a205a mkii is excellent.  at least there's schematics for it, out on the web...

Great amps poor marketing. They are gone. Simple circuits so repair if needed a piece of cake. Should be going for cheap used but there is a cult following. Must be a reason.

reason:  "giant-killer" sound.  they do go for cheap, even if selling at 75% of original retail.

from a review of the a205a mkii:
http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/almarro4/mk2.html
"In my opinion, it could very nearly go toe-to-toe with some of the best direct-heated single-ended-triode (SET) amplifiers, like my own reference Fi 2A3 monoblocks and the 45 Yamamoto A08 I had in for review. That is high praise indeed. All three of those amplifiers sounded very good but they were also very different from each other. I think you could prefer any one of them over the other and it would largely depend on your taste, the other components in your system and the thickness of your wallet."

reviews of the original a205a:
http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/almarro/a205a.html
http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/almarro2/a205a.html

a318a review:

a318b reviews:

it does seem that almarro could have done a wee bit more marketing.  but, it also seems that, much as i love a bargain, perhaps almarro's biggest problem was that it left a few dollars too many on the table.  as its products have been favorably compared to product costing 3-4 times the price, even an additional $100-200 per unit could have helped more than hurt...

Almost bought an 318B last week for $1350. Love the 6C33C tube. Maybe I'll get it, however just have too many amps on hand now. Hoye 1

Have also heard very positive things about these amps. Not sure how they’d mate with KEF LS 50s, but it’s an interesting idea.

i'm certain the a205a's, at ~4.8w into 8 ohms, wouldn't be the best match.  but the a318's, at 18wpc would likely work if not pushed too hard in a big room.  if the amp were actively crossed over to subs, it would work even better.

Certainly are purdy. Look very expensive. If iI do spend oddles it will be Lamm ML-2 mono blocks. Until then the Qualiton A20i is all I need. Looking into 300B as well just for kicks however never know as Rethms like 300B.

Made by Rethm which I am a dealer for. $1750 is cheap for them. Out of production I believe.
