Greg Lake

Sweet Thunder Half Speed Mastered LP

Sweet Thunder was an small audiophile label from the early 80s. They only put out little over a dozen reissues, but everything I have heard from them was very good sounding.

Musically this album is typical Greg Lake power guitar. 'Nuff said.  :thumb:

Aaron Copland: Billy the Kid - Ballet Suite

Sweet Thunder Half Speed Mastered LP

I always find it interesting listening to a composer conduct his own work because it gives you a benchmark as to exactly how he meant for it to be played.

David Hykes/The Harmonic Choir: Hearing Solar Winds

  Ocora LP

Every once in a while you come across something on the shelf and wonder "why haven't I listened to this one for so long?" And then you put it on and immediately know why it had been collecting dust. This was one of those situations.

This album has been on the TAS Superdisc list for as long as I can remember, and I have no idea why. The sonics are OK, but nothing that I would consider outstanding and the music itself is just plain weird. Harry must have seen something in it, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what. Oh well, to each his own

The Woody Herman Band: Chick, Donald, Walter and Woodrow

Century Records Direct to Disc LP

One side of this album contains Chick Corea music while the other is songs from Steely Dan. It drove me crazy until I realized that the labels were pasted on the wrong sides.

If you ever come across one of these LPs be aware that it was released both as a direct to disc LP and a standard LP mastered from tape. And the covers are exactly the same. The only way to know the difference is to look at the label. The Century Records Logo is inside the top half of a circle. If the LP you are looking at is the D2D version the words "Limited edition direct to disc recording" will appear in the bottom half of the circle. If the bottom of the circle is blank (as it is in the attached photo) they the LP in your hand was made from a tape backup master.

Looks like this is an online only release as I could not find any information anywhere on the web about physical media for this album. But I like it none the less.

Ranjit Souri: Dark Side of the Moon - A Piano cover of the Complete Album

  You Tube

I ripped this to a FLAC file from a YouTube video. As such the SQ is not stellar, but I find it enjoyable from a musical standpoint and the SQ is good enough for that.

Below is a link tot he original YouTube video if anyone is interested.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GvMqPij0yQ

Since neither of these last two items are available in a physical disc I think I am justified adding the online versions to my Dark Side list.  :thumb:
