DIY New Arrivals LP Rack
« on: June 06, 2015, 02:16:38 PM »

Obviously there will be more pics to follow. I still need to cut and secure the 4 dividers and of course sand and stain.

Rough cost including trim screws and a few special drill bits approx. $105

Bill, that is awesome!!!!  :thumb:

Half my records are in boxes and the other half not even in the audio room. This looks a lot nicer than the rack plan I was looking at. Is it your own plan?

Looks like you've also started on the new audio room?

And at a very convenient height so you don;t hurt your back bending over. Now I guess you just need about 5-10 more of them  :duh

Wow that is real nice. I have only a small LP collection but like Bob says, it is a back saver. Might be worth it to build one even for a small collection Hmmmmm :-s

Ok, Bill, looks fantastic... I'll take two of them @ $210... I'll shoot you PayPal payment, unless you want to barter a cable or two...

Yes on both counts Rich.

I had no real plans Rich I just kinda winged it. I hate to file my recent acquisitions in with the other 6,000 LP's because then they are all but lost in the racks. Now I'll be able to "easily" go thru the new arrivals and yes my bad back prompted this project. All my recent buys are in cardboard boxes and old milk crates on the floor which makes me walk right by them.
Here's a parts list as well as I can remember.
4x8 sheet sanded 1/2" ply. Big cuts done at Home Depot
2 Lengths  1" x 10' EMT
2 Lengths  1/2" x 10' EMT
3 5/16" x 6'. All thread
16 lock nuts 5/16"
4  1 1/8" rubber feet
1  3/4" x 6" pine board
I also bought a package of finishing screws. They look much better than using good old dry wall screws. Also allows me to disassemble if necessary.
I picked up a 3/4" hole saw and a 1 1/8" Fostner bit

Hope this helps.
Any other questions Rich ?? "Fire when ready Griswald"

BTW:
Each space is 12 3/4" wide by 16 3/4" deep and will hold approx. 90 LP's. If you do that they'll be diff. to flip. LOL

Haha Bob
I think most likely I would need to build another 15 to house all my vinyl.

Not gonna happen.

But that is just to house what you  have now. By the time you finsh building the 15 you will have picked up enough new LPs to need at least one more. It will be a never ending cycle.  :duh   :duh

Cool! Thanks for sharing your recipe! I'm sure the legs were a lot of work, but it really looks professional compared to 2x4 legs.

It would even be nice to have a one bay unit next to the TT to hold heavy rotations.

Rich I had considered these legs from IKEA. But there's not a store even remotely close to me and I hate to pay shipping.

The orange tempted you, right?

I want to make a plan for this, but it might take a few days to work on it. I think your design is unique and compliments that other DIY record shelf design.
