Actually the amp is for both my son and I.
I am setting up a system around my Virgo's, that will be used by both of us, so I need an amp with some power to drive the Virgos.
I love tubes but I need a lot of tubes to drive those speakers properly so I am going to try solid state. Tubes have become so expensive, and your amp is only as good as the tubes that are in it, so time to change.
If anyone has a nice used solid state amp they want to sell, let me know.
I considered class D, but know in the end I will hate it, so I am trying to avoid that pitstop. I have heard some really nice sounding class D but it is VERY expensive.

So why are you looking at the Sphinx, it uses Hypex ucd 180 class D modules for the output

Mike,
I will soon be receiving a NuPrime ST-10 to borrow for  bit.
Its just the amp, but they do offer an integrated I believe.
I am told its a new slant on class D with a different power supply topology. Your welcome to come over and hear it.
If you like it you can borrow it.
Greg

Mike the Nu-prime intergrated looks interesting to try. Peachtree would be my recco for an intergrated.
The Nu=prime has a low input impedance of approx. 24k Ohms, matching a preamp might be an issue.
